JUL 31 GB5 Dccket I;o. 50-458 Applicant: Gulf States Utilities Company (GSU) ,

J Facility: River Benc Station (RBS)

Subject:

  • Meeting Sumary - Hydrogen Control The participants met to discuss the depth and extent of the prelininary analysis required to support interin resolution of hyorogen control -

degraded core for River Bend Statior. (RSS).

The staf f and GSU differed over the validity of GSU use of the interr'ediate volume temperature profile, where few hydrogen burns occur, in determining the survivability of essential ecuipment. The staff's concern was that the current CLASIX-3 r.odeling is not capable of providing spatial dependent hydrogen burning. GSU's basic premise was that the final analysis including the quarter scale test was the appropriate vehicle for resolving nost issues raised by the staff.

All parties agreed the support of a September 9-11, 1955 ACRS teeting on t'his topic was a feasible goal provided:

1) GSU would reexamine their equipment survivability analyses to ascertain how many burns could specific equipment survive under " conservative" assumptions.
2) GSU would expand their equipnent survivability assessment to include cables and transmitters.
3) GSU would reexamine assumptions behind the drywell break case and report back to the staff.
4) GSU would specify which scenarios would be considered in their final j analysis.

1

5) GSU would supply Items 1 through 4 to the staff, on the docket, by August 5, 1985.
6) CSB (Kudrick) RSB (Rosenthal) and EQb (Garg) agreed that if the inputs specified above were receivec by August 5,- 1985, a staff report on GSU's preliminary analysis would be completeo by August 19, 1985.

7) Mr. Rosenthal with concurrence by Mr. Notafrancesco emphasized that the staff preliminary evaluation would identify the limitations of GSU analysis and the staff continued efforts to resolve the hydrogen issue.

All parties' agreed that G5U would limit their preliminary analysis to the inter-acciate containment volume and not incluce upper containment. GSU also agrced to provide the staff with a description of nodifications made to the CLASIX-2
