Dear Mr. Pierce:

This is in response to your letter dated August 30, 1985, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (F0IA), information regarding James Neel and/or David Gravely in their association with Pyrochem.

Inc., Nuclear Engineering, Inc., and U.S. Ecology, Inc., relating to the Maxey Flats Nuclear Disposal Area, Hillsboro, Kentucky, and the Sheffield, Illinois, disposal site.

During your September 16, 1985, telephone conversation with Mr. Stephen Isaacs of my staff, you were informed that the NRC has no records subject to that portion of your request regarding the Maxey Flats Nuclear Disposal Area.

The documents listed on the enclosed Appendix A are already available in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR),1717 H Street, NW, Washington, DC. The documents listed on the enclosed Appendix B are being placed in PDR folder F01A-85-619 under your name. We are enclosing a notice which explains procedures and charges for obtaining records from the PDR. This confinns Mr. Isaacs' suggestion that you review these records and the remainder of the approximately six feet of records in the Sheffield Docket File (27-39) located in the PDR and submit another FOIA request in the event you are interested in any additional records.
