Subject:

Quad Cities Station Units 1 and 2 Compliance with Regulatory Guide 1.97 NRC Docket Nos. 50-254 and 50-265

Reference:

Letter from D. 8. Vassallo to D. L. Farrar dated June 12, 1984 (Confirmatory Order).

Dear Mr. Vassallo:

The referenced letter documents our commitments regarding Supplement 1 to MJREG-0737 and contains a schedule for completion of our remaining commitments. The enclosed report describes our plans regarding compliance with Regulatory Guide (R.G.) 1.97 and fulfills Commitment 3a of the attachment to the referenced letter. The report documents our review of existing instrumentation against the requirements of R.G. 1.97 and describes our proposed actions for compliance.

We have committed to submit an implementation schedule by February 1, 1986. Due to the need to integrate any modifications resulting from R.G. 1.97 with other aspects of NUREG-0737, Sopplement 1 (Emergency Procedures, Control Room Design Review, etc.), it is necessary that we receive prompt feedback from your staff regarding the enclosed report. Your approval of our plan for compliance with R.G. 1.97 is therefore requested by October 1, 1985.

This will allow us to complete a human factors review of the required modifications and prepare a comprehensive implementation schedule consistent with our February 1, 1986 commitment.

Please direct any questions you may have regarding this matter to this office.

One signed original and forty (40) copies of this letter and the enclosure are provided for your use.

Very truly yours, 8500070181 850001 PDR ADOCK 05000254 p
