SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-482/96-25
Dear Mr. Carns:
An NRC inspection was conducted December 9-13,1996, at your Wolf Creek Generating
Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that
inspection.
This inspection focused upon activities related to solid radioactive waste management and
the transportation of radioactive wastes and materials. Your self-assessments of
radioactive waste and transportation activities were comprehensive and provided probing
insights concerning program performance. However, in some cases your corrective actions
failed to address root causes, trending, and followup reviews. As such, some of the
potential for benefits to be gained from the assessments were not realized. We noted that
corrective action issues identified during this inspection were similar to those you
discussed during the management meeting held on December 6,1996.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
