Subject:

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412, License No. NPF-73 Additional Information Regarding Generic Letter 92-08, "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers" Please be advised that our completion of the hardware modifications and final resolution of the Thermo-Lag fire barrier issues at BVPS Unit 2 will not be completed by the end of 1996 as previously identified in our letter of December 1,1995. Additional upgrades to certain Thermo-Lag installations have been determined to be necessary.

This additional work scope is being reviewed to establish a revised schedule for completion. The Thermo-Lag configurations are being reviewed against existing fire test data to bound or support an equivalent level of protection to that of a qualified, tested I hour fire rated assembly. We expect that by January 31,1997, the work scope will be def~med and a revised schedule established. A written submittal will follow, no later than February 14,1997, to identify the completion date for final resolution of the Thermo-Lag fire barrier issues at BVPS Unit 2.

As requested in Generic Letter 92-08, confirmation in writing will be provided upon completion of the corrective actions. In the interim, fire watch patrols will be maintained for the affected areas until the Thermo-Lag fire barrier issues have been resolved.

Should you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. Roy K.

Brosi, Manager, Nuclear Safety at (412) 393-5210.
