INSPECTION NO. 070-00139/96-003
Dear Mr. Chabot:
On November 6,1996, Mark Roberts of this office conducted a safety inspection at the Engelhard Corporation facility on Route 152 in Plainville, Massachusetts. The inspection was limited to a review of actions related to the remediation of residual contamination in Building 2 at the site. The inspection consisted of observations by the inspector, examination of selected records, and interviews with personnel, in addition, the inspection included a telephone conversation with Stephen Miller, a representative of your contractor, Hilbert Associates, on December 11,1996. The findings of the inspection were discussed with James Mayberry, Steve Graham and you, at the conclusion of the inspection. A copy of the NRC inspection report is enclosed.
i in accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter will be placed in the Public Document Room. A copy of the letter and the enclosed report will also be sent to our contractor, the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for use in developing a confirmatory survey plan. No reply to this letter is required.
