Dear (1r. White:

I am writing in response to your note requesting additional information on the progress of the Three 1111e Island Unit 2 cleanup. Enclosed is the most recent status report on the cleanup progress. Since the issuance of that report in February of this year, another significant milestone has been achieved with the successful removal of the plenum assembly from the reactor vessel in !!ay. Reactor vessel defueling is scheduled to begin in October of this year and the initial defueling phase will involve the collection of debris consisting of fuel assembly end fittings, control rod spider assemblies and other items by " pick and place" techniques. Once exposed, the core rubble bed will then be removed by vacuuming the debris into specially designed canisters.

I trust this information is responsive to your request.

Sincerely,

/s/

Bernard J. Snyder, Progrum Director Three 1111e Island Program Office Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Enclosurc.:
