1 Attention: Mr. E. H. Johnson Docket No. 50-267

SUBJECT:

Provisions to Preclude Manual Inward Overtravel of Control Rods

REFERENCE:

NRC Letter, Johnson to Lee, Dated July 12, 1985 (G-85270)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

In Attachment 3 to the referenced letter, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) states that Public Service Company of Colorado (PSC)

"... should confirm that all procedures in which rod travel beyond the full-in limit could occur contain appropriate cautions and controls to reduce the likelihood of damage to potentiometers and their couplings." This letter serves as notice to the NRC that PSC is currently including such procedural controls (if not already present) in all appropriate System Operating Procedures, Surveillance Requirement Procedures, and Emergency Procedures.

This task will be completed by July 19, 1985.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. M. H. Holmes at (303) 571-8409.

Sincerely, J. W. Gahm Manager, Nuclear Production Fort St. Vrain Nuclear
