m Gentlemen:

The Babcock & Wilcox Company, Commercial Nuclear Fuel Plant is requesting a 2 month extension on performing the 1985 audit of our nuclear material control system (10 CFR 70.58 (c; (2).

Section 8.2.1.1 of our Fundamental Nuclear Materials Control Plan states that this audit is to be performed at intervals not to exceed 12 months.

This audit was planned to start the 1st week in July in conjunction with our original inventory schedule.

Scheduling problems with manufacturing and the 2 week plant shutdown in late July have caused us to reschedule the inventory to August 12 which is within our 210 day inventory interval (License Condition 5.1).

Scheduling the audit to initiate on August 12 would be outside the 12 month criteria stated in Section 8.2.1.1 of our FNMC Plan.

As a result, we are requesting that we be allowed to initiate the 1985 audit of the 10 CFR 70.58(c) (2) systems within 60 days af ter the end of the 12 month period specified in Section 8.2.1.1.

Arthur Young & Company performs our 70.58 audit and they are tentatively scheduled to start the audit on the SNM inventory date of August 12, 1985.

The 60 day interval we are request-ing allows a degree of flexibility in the event minor rescheduling is eeded.
