Dear Sir:
During a telephone conversation on April 10, 1985, between Mr. H. Kerch of the NRC and Mr. J. Stankoski of Northeast Utilities, Open Item 50-213/80-14-03 from NRC Inspection 50-213/84-21 was discussed. This item concerns two U.T. calibration blocks used during the 1980 refueling outage.
In their discussion regarding the austenitic calibration blocks, No. 31 and 32 which are referenced in the unresolved item, the following was determined:
- The piping inspected is under b" thick.
- Ultrasonic inspection of pipe under h" thick is not required by the 1980 edition of the ASME B&PV Code.
- Calibration blocks, numbers 31 and 32 will not be used again since Connecticut Yankee has revised its ISI program to comply with the 1980 edition, including the winter 1980 addenda of the ASME B&PV Code.
