' Unit No. 2; Docket No. 50-318 Supplemental Response to NRC G.L. 84-24

Reference:

BG&E letter from A. E. Lundvall to 3. R. Miller (NRC) dated May 28,1985.

Gentlemen:

This supplements our referenced letter wherein we requested schedular relief for several equipment items on Unit 2.

As requested by your staff, this letter updates our justification for continued operation for item #V of the referenced letter.

We maintain our position that the Sandia National Laboratory (SNL) data published in NUREG/CR-3418 is not applicable to Weidmuller terminal blocks. A similar block design as the Weidmuller (although of different materials) out-performed other standard designs in the SNL tests. We have test data which show lower leakage currents for Weidmuller blocks at 600V than for the blocks tested by SNL at 45 vdc. Leakage currents on the Weidmuller terminal blocks are one to two orders of magnitude smal'er than leakage currents from much lower applied voltages used by SNL.

Therefore, because of material and design differences, and the data we have relative to leakage currents, we conclude that the Weidmuller blocks we employ are not subject to the high leakage currents identified in the Sandia National Laboratory report.

With regard to the Marathon blocks discussed in the referenced letter, we have submitted predicted instrument inaccuracies to Operations Personnel, who in turn r

I have incorporated this data into appropriate Operating Prxedures. These procedures l

will be used until the upcoming Unit 2 outage (commencing in October 1985), at which I

time the terminations will be upgraded to fully qualified status.
