Dear Mr. Hillman:

g y' The University of Virginia Reactor Facility hereby informs the '

Nuclear Regulatory Commission of our intention to make a shipment of unirradiated, highly enriched, research reactor fuel elements from our facility in Charlottesville, Virginia to the Babcock and Wilcox Company in Lynchburg, Virginia on September 24, 1985. Twelve fuel elements will be shipped with a total contained U-235 content of 1534.67 grams.

The truck and two shipping' casks (USA /9134/B()F) are being arranged for by the Transportation Department at B&W.

Upon arrival at our facility the casks will be loaded and sealed in accordance with the cask's certificate of compliance.

For this shipment the applicable regulations i.n 10 CFR 73.67 will be followed as well as any additional applicable regulations.

It is anticipated that the total in-transit time from Charlottesville to Lynchburcj kill be approximately one and one-half hours concluding in-the-late morning or early afternoon of 24 September.
