Dear Mr. Kenyon:

The NRC's Order to Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) dated October 24, 1996, required NNECO to submit, within 30 days from the date of the Order, a proposed, third-party organization to oversee implementation of a comprehensive plan for reviewing and dispositioning safety issues raised by NNECO. NNEC0's November 25, 1996, letter requested an extension of 30 days for the submittal of the proposed, third-party ot anization. This is based on your indication that additional time is needed to assure selection of the best  ;

candidate among a number of organizations currently under consideration.

The Order provides that the Director, Office of Nuclear. Reactor Regulation, )

may, in writing, relax or rescind the Order upon demonstration by the licensee I

, of good cause. I find your request reasonable, and therefore grant an  !
