SUBJECT:
RENEWAL OF NRC-NOAA MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON ATMOSPHERIC TRANSPORT AND DISPERSION MODELS
Dear Mr. Holst:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) have developed the enclosed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to continue collaboration on atmospheric transport and dispersion (ATD) models. This MOU involves the NRCs incorporation of NOAAs HYSPLIT ATD model into the NRCs MELCOR Accident Consequence Code System (MACCS) as an alternative ATD model. The NRCs Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) distributes the MACCS code to domestic and international organizations to enable them to analyze the consequences of potential severe nuclear reactor accidents involving atmospheric releases of radioactive material.
Enclosed please find a signed copy of the MOU which you may retain for your records.
We look forward to these collaborative efforts and thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Sincerely, Raymond V. Digitally signed by Raymond V.
