SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-458/96-28
Dear Mr. McGaha:
An NRC inspection was conducted October 7-10,1996, at your River Bend Station reactor
facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.
The inspection reviewed portions of the radiation protection program. The areas reviewed
included audits and appraisals, training and qualifications, and the program to maintain
occupational radiation exposures as low as is reasonably achievable. These portions of the
program were implemented properly, although the operation and effectiveness of the
ALARA committee could be improved. For 1994 through 1996, the 3-year average of
collective radiation exposure at River Bend Station v'as above the national average for
boiling water reactors. However, it was noted that the 1995 exposure levels were the
lowest in the plant's operating history.

and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
