SUBJECT:
PERSPECTIVE ON GROUNDWATER FLOW AT SHEFFIELD Attached is the updated working draft of " Perspective on groundwater flow at Sheffield." This internal staff report describes the groundwater flow system at the Sheffield, Illinois low-level radioactive waste (LLW) disposal site, including preliminary flow modeling results from our recently expired contract with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). It includes figures supplied by the USGS which have not been published and should not be referenced or cited.
Please review this report to ensure that it accurately represents your understanding of the site hydrogeology and provide comments and suggestions to me by July 10, 1985.
This perspective should provide further insight to the site's hydroneology to support review'of the closure plan and evaluation of closure activities. In addition, this report is being used to support the interpretation of results from our recent non-radiological sampling program at the site, and to support NRC's own performance assessment modeling of the site.
