RIVER BEND STATION, UNIT 1 - CLOSE0VT OF BULLETIN 92-01, SUPPLEMENT 1 (TAC N0. M83921)

Dear Mr. McGaha:

The issue of failed fire test and installation problems with Thermo-Lag was first reported by Gulf States Utilities Company which resulted in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issuance of Information Notice 92-46 and subsequently, Bulletin 92-01 and Supplement 1.

By letter dated September 23, 4

1992, Gulf States Utilities Company responded to NRC Bulletin 92-01, Supplement 1 " Failure of Thermo-Lag 330 Fire Barrier System to Perform Its Specified Fire Endurance Function." On December 17, 1992, Generic Letter 92-08 (GL), "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers" was issued. GL 92-08 and supplements have replaced the requirements and review that was being performed under Bulletin 92-01, Supplement 1.

The River Bend Station responded to GL 92-08 and referred to Bulletin 92-01, Supplement 1 in their "RBG-38343, Forwards Response to GL 92-08, Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers & Suppl 1 to NRC Bulletin 92-001, Failure of Thermo-Lag 330 [[Topic" contains a listed "[" character as part of the property label and has therefore been classified as invalid. Sys to Maintain Cabling in Wide Cable Trays Free from Fire Damage|letter dated April 14, 1993]]. The NRC responded to that letter with a request for additional information dated December 22, 1993, in which, all references were directed to GL 92-08.

The responses by Gulf States Utilities Company, now Enter 9y Gulf States, have been appropriately directed to GL 92-08 and no further action or reviews are being conducted under Bulletin 92-01, Supplement 1.

Therefore, Bulletin 92-01, Supplement 1 and TAC No. M83921 are closed.
