SUBJECT:

ESTABLISMENT OF LOCAL PUBLIC DOCUMENT ROOM FOR DOCKET 70-3091, DOE HANFORD TANK WASTE REMEDIATION SYSTEM The Licensing Branch (FCLB), has recently assumed responsibility for assisting DOE in developing a regulatory process for vitrification operations. To support this effort a new Docket No. 70-3091 has been established for the DOE Hanford Tank Waste Remediation System, Richland, Washington.

FCLB requests your assistance in making the documents associaud with 70-3091 available to the community of Richland, Washington, through the establishement of a Local Public Document Room. Danielle Hoadley, a member of my staff, has spoken to Sandra Northern, of your staff, regarding this request and was advised that the Richland Public Library already exists as an LPDR in Richland with computer access to NRC and that an accession list could be provided to this facility for public use to assist in locating these documents. Ms.

Northern further explained that establisment of a new LPDR would probably not be necessary, but that your staff would make the final determination. Please note that no documents have been processed through the docketing system as yet, but are being held until the docketing database has been modified and the LPDR established. Ms. Northern also advised that your office would notify the community of Richland, Washington, and other interested members of the public of the availability of these documents by Federal Register Notice when the establishment of the LPOR is finalized.

If you require further information or have any questions, please contact Danielle Hoadley (415-8129, e-mail DAH), or the project manager, Gary comfort (415-8106, e-mail GCC1).
