JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATIONS APRIL, 1985 During the month of April, there was one unit shutdown which occurred as planned on April 6, 1985 and initiated the Cycle VI-VII refueling outage.

The following major safety-related maintenance was performed in the month of April:

1.

Miscellaneous corrective and preventive maintenance was performed on the diesel generators.

2.

Eddy current examinations were performed on tubes in the 1A and 1C steam generators. One tube in the IC steam generator was plugged because it exceeded the pluggable limit. Eddy current testing in the IB steam generator is scheduled to be ccmpleted in May.

3.

The reactor was de-fueled and planned inservice and visual inspections of the reactor vessel were completed. The fuel, including 76 new fuel assemblies, was placed back into the reactor vessel.

4.

The anti-vibration bars (AVBs) in the IB steam generator are being removed and replaced with AVBs of a different design. This replacement is in response to concerns about accelerated wear of the steam generator tubes caused by AVBs of the old design.

5.

Thirty-two containment vertical tendon field anchors have been removed, inspected and replaced. No cracks have been found.

A combined total of 55 horizontal and dome tendon anchors have been inspected.
