STAFF REQUIREMENTS - BRIEFING ON SITE DECOMMISSIONING MANAGEMENT PLAN (SDMP)

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1996, COMMISSIONERS' CONFERENCE ROOM, ONE WHITE FLINT NORTH, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND (OPEN TO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE)
The Commission was briefed by the NRC staff on the status of the Site Decommissioning Management Plan (SDMP).
The Commission requested a report on the application of risk-informed regulation to formerly licensed sites and old burial sites, and an update on the status of the review of those sites.

3/28/97) 1 The staff should also report on the feasibility of a generic environmental impact statement for some of the SDMP sites, including the legal issues, public participation concerns, and technical commonality.

The Commission expressed some concern about the turnover of project managers and suggested that the impacts on the SDMP sites be tracked to provide a basis for judging the effectiveness of the turnover process.
The staff should report on the impacts at its next annual briefing of the Commission on the SDMP.
