A Unit of PECO Energy w[pN.sI9f October 21,1996 Docket Nos. 50-352 50-353 License Nos. NPF-39 NPF-85 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

Limerick Generating Station (LGS), Units 1 and 2 10 CFR 20, Disposal Application Clarification and Implementation Date Gentlemen:

l The purpose of this letter is to clarify the definition of the designated disposal area, approved by the NRC pursuant to 10 CFR 20.2002, by letter dated July 10,1996. A second purpose of this letter is to notify the NRC of the implementation date associated with the issued disposal authorization.

At the request of a NRC, Region I, inspector, the following clarification of the disposal area is being submitted to ensure that no misinterpretations pertaining to the definition of the designated area are encountered. PECO Energy's application letter dated April 6,1995, and supplemented on November 15,1995 described the location of the proposed disposal area to be part of the LGS site restricted area. The designated area is within the site boundary, where PECO Energy has the ability to exercise positive control over individual's activities; however, there are no requirements for occupational dose monitoring, and this area is not considered a radiologically controlled area. This area is described in the discussions regarding the disposal method, and depicted on the maps contained within the application letters. The application and its supporting information accounted for this definition of the designated area and its location.

The NRC Safety Evaluation which accompanied the July 10,1996 approval letter, accurately describes the location of the designated area, and the disposal method proposed by our application. Therefore, the definition of the " site restricted area" for the purposes of the 10 CFR 20.2002 disposal method can be found within the April 6,1995 application and is reflected in the NRC July 10, 1996, Safety Evaluation.
