SUBJECT:
COORDINATION OF NRR STAFF AND NEl INTERACTIONS
Dear Mr. Tipton:
. As a result of a recent reorganization within the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
- (NRR), the Generic issues and Environmental Projects Branch (PGEB) has been created..
within the Division of Reactor Program Management. This branch's responsibilities include 2-coordinating interactions between the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and NRR. To support i
NEl activities, PGEB has assigned project managers for all NEl initiatives. In most cases, these project managers are to be the focal point in handling administrative matters, arranging for staff support for conference calls and meetings, and for coordinating with the technical divisions to secure resources for technical reviews. Mr. Stewart Magruder and i
Ms. Melinda Malloy will be the principal NRR project managers for NEl activities. They can l
be reached at (301) 415 3139 and (301) 415-1178, respectively. In addition, the attached matrix lists the current active issues, based on recent conversations with 3
members of your staff, the PGEB project managers, and the NRC technicallead reviewer.
I also want to emphasize the importance of providing a copy of all correspondence to the j
NRC Document Control Desk, noting this on the document, and including the appropriate project number on the correspondence. Project No. 689 should be used for all
- correspondence except that related to the license renewal Part 54 Guideline activities (NEl 9510). You should continue to use Project No. 690 for correspondence related to i
NEl 95-10 activities. These efforts will facilitate the distribution of the correspondence L
.within the agency and to the public, make it significantly easier to retrieve documents, and i
provide a better historical record. If you desire, you may continue to send copies of i
correspondence directly to members of the staff. Please feel free to contact me, j
Mr. Magruder, or Ms. Malloy with any questions.
i Sincerely, original signed by:
Thomas T. Martin, Director lj Division of Reactor Program Management Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Project Nos. 689 & 690
