Dear Mr. Martin:
Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) retained the Delian Corporation to perform an independent construction assessment of Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS). The assessment was conducted during June through August, 1984 and Delian's Construction Assessment Report is now available.
l The assessment was conducted at KG&E's initiative to give an additional measure of assurance of the construction quality at Wolf Creek. Approxi-mately 2000 man-hours were involved in detailed inspections of hardware, procedures and documentation. Areas inspected included electrical and instrumentation construction, mechanical construction including piping j
and supports, welding, nondestructive testing, civil / structural construction, material traceability, maintenance, change control and quality control.
The results of the assessment generally were favorable and the main con-clusion of the report states that Wolf Creek's "... construction workmanship and inspection practices appear to be equal to or better than industry standards." The assessment team did, however, identify several deficiencies during the course of their inspection. KG&E is in the process of resolving and correcting these deficiencies. KG&E is utilizing Delian to verify close-out of the deficiencies to maintain their independent viewpoint. Resolution and verification efforts are anticipated to be complete by the end of October 1984.
