RIV Docket No. 50-458/ Report 85-10 This letter is in response to your letter dated May 7, 1985, which requested additional information concerning the Notice of Violation 85-10-02, " Compliance with Welding Control Procedure Requirements,"
contained in NRC I6E Inspection Report No. 50-458/85-10. The inspection was conducted at the River Bend Station construction site by Messrs.
W. M. McNelli and I. Barnes during the period February 4-8, 1985, of activities authorized by NRC Construction Permit CPPR-145 for River Bend Station Unit No. 1.
'Ihe following information addresses the actions being taken to assure that station attendant-prepared Construction Completion Checklists (CCC) accurately reflect performance of their duties. GSU Quality Assurance performed an unscheduled surveillance of Weld Rod Issue Stations 1 and 3 on May 3, 1985. During the surveillance it was observed that the Weld Rod Station Attendants maintain a daily log of the temperature checks made during the day of the rod storage ovens and portable electric rod heaters in addition to the preparation of CCC's.
The Construction Welding Supervisior or his designee reviews and signs the daily log and the com-pleted CCC. Also, FQC routinely checks the Weld Rod Issue Stations and prepares an Iaspection Report documenting the results of their inspection.

.dition to the completed CCC, provides assurance that management is aware that the rod ovens and portable electric heaters are maintained within the required temperature range and that proper environmental control are imposed on the Weld Filler Materials at the Weld Rod Issue Stations.
