M 101985 Ms. Joan A. Estrada, Professional Carpet Service 4608 North Park Avenue IN RESPONSE REFER Chevy Chase, MD 20815-4596 TO F01A-85-370
Dear Ms. Estrada:
This is in response to your letter dated May 15, 1985, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, records relating to duplicate overpayments by the Nuclear Regulatory Comission (NRC), the amount of money represented by such overpayments, and the refunds and the dates of any refunds.
The staff has informed me that there are no records subject to your request.
However, they have provided the following information to me.
The NRC processes over 20,000 payments per year. Of these, only one duplicate payment was made since August 1, 1984. This incident occurred when an in-experienced examiner made an error on a duplicate invoice by the U.S. Peni-tentiary system for $112.50. On a purchase order for 29 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs were certified twice by the Contracting Officers authorized represen-tative and this invoice was erroneously paid. A credit memorandum was then issued and the $112.50 was promptly re-collected.
Sincerely, M(
