Northern States Power Company 414 Ncollet Mall Minneapohs. Minnesota 55401 Telephone (612) 330-5500 May 10, 1985 Mr R L Spessard, Director Division of Reactor Safety U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 Inspection Report 50-263/84026(DRS) was forwarded to us with your letter of April 11, 1985. A response to two items of noncompliance and two unresolved items was requested within 30 days. The purpose of this letter is to request an extension on the time allowed for responding to this inspection report.
We request an extension until May 24, 1985 for providing our response to Inspection Report 50-263/84026(DRS). The reasons for requiring this exten-sion are as follows:
a.
The Monticello plant has been shut down this week for a maintenance outage. The plant technical staff has been heavily involved in preparing for and partic, ipating in this
- outage, b.
Containment leakage rate testing, including interpretation and implementation of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix J, are among the most complex technical issues we must deal with. The 30-day response period, which is adequate for responding to most noncompliance items and unresolved items, does not provide sufficient response time to address these issues.
Please contact me if you have any questions related to our request for additional ti to respond to Inspection Report 50-263/84026(DRS).
