OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCES TO DISCUSS THE IN-SERVICE TESTING (IST) PROGRAM FOR THE AP600 ADVANCED REACTOR DESIGN The subject telephoni conferences were held on September 5 and Octo-ber 8,1996, between D. Lindgren and T. Schultz of Westinghouse Electric Corporation (Westinghouse), and J. Huang, J. Brammer, D. Jackson (9/S only),
and W. Huffman (10/8 only) of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and A. DiBiasio, NRC consultant. The purpose of the telephone conferences were to discuss the status of the staff's review of the IST program. Attachment 1 is a narrative discussion of the open issues. Attachment 2 provides a summary of the status of the open items using the Westinghouse open items tracking system

number. Attachment 3 is a copy of certain provisions developed by the staff l
to address the design / qualification problems documented in Generic Let-ter 89-10 and IE Bulletin 83-03. These provisions should be included in the standard safety analysis report. Attachment 4 is an interim status report prepared by the NRC consultant after the September 5, 1996, telephone confer-i ence.

assist Westinghouse's preparation for the October 8, 1996, telephone confer-ence.
