REPORT (TAC NO. M85494)

By letter dated January 18, 1993, the Commonwealth Edison Company (CECO) submitted the Core Operating Limits Report (COLR) for Cycle 6 operation of the 3

LaSalle County Station, Unit -1.

In your. letter, you -indicated your intention j

to use 156 fuel assemblies which.have.previously irradiated fuel channels j

attached to them.

You stated that these assemblies had been rechanneled prior to the issuance of NRC Bulletin No. 90-02, " Loss of Thermal Margin Caused by l

Channel Box Bow," (Bulletin) and that these fuel assemblies will-be placed i

only in non-limiting locations near the periphery:of the core.

l The staff has reviewed your submittal for compliance with the staff position i

set forth in tne Bulletin and with our September 29, 1992, Safety Evaluation j

(SE) regarding the.use of rechanneled fuel during Unit 1 Cycle 6.

We have determined that your proposed use of these rechanneled fuel assemblies is-consistent with both the Bulletin and SE regarding this issue and is, therefore, acceptable. This concludes staff activities regarding your Cycle 6 l

Core Operating Limits Report under TAC No. M85494.

b Please note that the staff has not reviewed the applicability or acceptability of other aspects of your Cycle 6 COLR, and has-no intention to do so in the-near future. Also be advised that, although the staff has previously approved the reuse of fuel channels for Unit 1 Cycle 6, any future-reuse of fuel channels must be evaluated by the staff on a cycle specific. basis.
