CHANGE IN POWER CHANNEL CALIBRATION TIMING The Commission has issued Amendment No. 34 to facility Operating License No.

R-67 for the GA Technologies, Inc. reactor. The amendnent censists of changes to the technical specifications in response to your submittal dated June 4, 198s.

The amendment authorizes perfornance of the calibration of the power channels by calorimetric or heat balance metheds semiannually, but with no interval greater than seven and one-half months, which is consistent with ANSI /ANS 15.1 " Development of Technical Specifications for Research Peactors" (1982).

This will elininete the need to interrupt the experimental program's extended runs for the sole purpose of power channel calibration in relation to the thermal power of the reactor.

Copies of Amendment No. 34 and the related Safety Evaluation are enclosed.
