Report of Excessive Removable Radioactive Surface Contamination on Package Received in Shipnient The following information is provided as followup to our eariier phone notification and to meet the reporting reciuirements of 10 CFR 20.1906(d)(1) pertaining to excessive removable radioactive surface contamination on packages received in shipment at our Richland, WA

nuc Shioment Thirty eight (38) Model 30-B UF cylinders. These cylinders contained heels (net wt. less than 25 lbs. each) and sent to Siemens Power Corporation (SPC) for cylinder washing. Radionuclides: 8,908 grams U-235 (U234, U235, U236, U238 less than 5 wt% enriched) total shipment.
2 Items Imolicated Two (2) cylinders showing localized (approximately 300 cm per cylinder) removable radioactive surface contamination in excess of 10 CFR 71.87 (i)(2) limits.

2 Two cylinders averaged approximately 25,000 dpm/100 cm over approximately 300 cm area 2
on each cylinder (compared to 22,000 dpm/cm limit in 10 CFR 71.87(i)(2)). Remaining 36
. cylinders below reporting limits.
Action Taken Both cylinders decontaminated at receiving pad.
- Truck surveyed as free of contamination and released.
Notified NRC Region IV office, shipper, and carrier regarding incident and current status.
Current Status No worker exposure or environmental release involved. No impact to plant operation.
