NRC FERMI 2 SECURITY INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-341/96-08(DRS)
Dear Mr. Gipson:

On August 16, 1996, the NRC completed an inspection at your Fermi 2 reactor
~
facility. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
I
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within
these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures
and representative records, interviews with per sonnel, and observation of
i
activities in progress. The purpose of the inspection effort was to determine
whether activities authorized by the license were conducted safely and in
accordance with NRC requirements. The summary contained in the report
,
provides an overview of our assessment of your performance in the area of
d
physical security.
'
The purposes of the inspection were to initiate the security core inspection
as identified in Inspection Procedure 81700, to review the status of previous
open inspection findings, to review security department participation in the
,
Deviation Event Report program, and to review the progress in changing from a
>
proprietary security force to a contract security force.
,

No violations of NRC requirements were noted in the areas inspected.
We are
~
however concerned with the recent increased number of loggable security events
caused by security force members personnel errors since this trend may be a
precursor to an adverse performance trend.
