JUL i 125 MEMORANDUM:
Philip F. McKee, Chief, Operating Reactor Program Branch, IE FROM:
Ronald R. Bellamy, Chief, Emergency Preparedness and Radiological Protection Branch, Region I
SUBJECT:
National TLD Program Status We have received your memorandum dated June 4,1985, and the Trip Report from L. K. Cohen to L. J. Cunningham dated May 7, 1985.
Other than the minor concerns discussed in the Trip Report, we agree that the TLD program is being conducted in an effective and efficient manner.
The matters raised in Dr. Cohen's Trip Report were fully recognized by Region I prior to Dr. Cohen's visit. Actions to improve some of these concerns had been initiated as discussed with Dr. Cohen during his visit to Region I.
The following are the Region I actions to improve the program efficiency:
1.
Staffing The current program staffing is adequate to conduct the program requirements.
During peak work periods (end and beginning of calander quarter) the staffing is augmented with part time help to assist in receiving, reading, calibrating and sending TLDs to the monitored sites.
2.
Facilities and Equipment With regard to facilities and equipment, we are exploring purchasing a new printer.
The current facilities will be upgraded after the Region moves to a new regional office.
3.
Training As to the training of the Desimetry Specialist, appropriate training will be provided as the resources will allow.
4.
Program Procedures We have program operating procedures for the computer system, TLD calibration, emergency response, and TLD handling. However, we are in the process of developing personnel monitoring (recently added to the program) procedure and TLD Dose maps.
