Subject:

Response to NRC Generic Letter 85-07 Intenrated Schedule for Fermi 2 i

In response to the Reference 2 letter, Detroit Edison plans to implement an informal living schedule only.

As you know, Fermi 2 commenced fuel load on March 20, 1985.

Those changes in plant design resulting from TMI and other' issues have, to a large extent, already been incorporated in the plant.

After we become fully operational, we will develop a ten-year capital expenditure budget forecast as is done with all plants on the Detroit Edison system.

Contained in these forecasts will be those projects'necessary to respond to any remaining regulatory requirements, enhancements to safety, and cost beneficial. modifications to improve efficiency, reliability, availability, and operability.

This, in i

[~

reality, is a "living schedule" within the company.

The need for NRC participation and agreement is not foreseen at this time due to the minimal remaining licensing / regulatory items to be implemented.

s Mr. H. L. Thompson July 5, 1985 NE-85-0908 Page 2 We do recognize that as we gain operating experience with the plant, perspectives tend to change.

Accordingly, we do want to keep the lines of communication open concerning the "living schedule" concept.

l If you should have any questions concerning this subject, please contact Mr. Larry Simpkin at (313) 586-4204.

Sincerely, r
