Subject: Inspection Number 50-333/93-01

This letter refers to the safety inspection conducted by Dr. Jason C. Jang of this office on

January 25-29,1993, of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-59 at the James A.

FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant, Lycoming, New York and to the discussion of our findings-

held by Dr. Jang with you and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the

inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection included your radioactive liquid and gaseous effluent

control programs as described in the NRC Region I Inspection keport which is enclosed with ;

this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of

procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation by the

inspector.

Within the scope of this spection, we noted that you had excellent programs for radioactive

liquid and gaseous effluent control, with the capabilities to protect the public health and

safety and the environment. We noted further that the responsible. individuals in the

Chemistry Department had excellent knowledge to implement the above programs. No safety

concerns or violations of regulatory requirements were observed in your programs.
