Inspection Report No. 70-371/85-09 A rcutine safety inspection of your radiation protection program was conducted by Mr. H. Bicehouse of this office on June 3-7, 1985. Our findings were discussed with you at the conclusion of the inspection on Jure 7, 1985.

Areas of the radiation protection program examined during this inspection are' described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel and measurements and observations made by the inspector.

Based on the results of this inspection, a violation of NRC requirements was identified. The violation was found to meet the mitigative tests described in 10 CFR 2, Appendix C, Section IV.A. In view of the circumstances surrounding this matter, we have exercised our discretion under the NRC Enforcement Policy and have chosen not to issue a Notice of Violation. We understand that your actions to identify and correct the causes for the increased airborne activity during scrap sample sorting and packaging will be completed by August 15, 1985.
