Dear Mr. Link:
This refers to.the inspection conducted by Mr. J. H. Neisler of this office on
August 16 and September 3-5, 1996, at the Point Beach Units 1 and 2 nuclear
pl ants. At the conclusion of the inspection, the inspection results were

discussed with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed report.
)

The inspection examined your activities relative to deficiencies identified by
your staff regarding physical separation of electrical wiring within the main
control boards. The areas examined included the operability determination,
circuit routing, short circuit analysis and planned corrective actions.
Activities in these areas appeared adequate; however, the determination that
separation of redundant circuits inside the control boards is a design basis
issue and not a licensing issue will require further review by the NRC.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of
this letter and the enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
