l U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission FEB 0 31993 Reference 2 also provided the following information: 1) the Master Equipment List (MEL) has been incorporated into the Browns Terry Equipment Management System (EMS) data base, 2) the key safety-related listings of equipment information have been loaded into EMS, including the Q-List and the 10 CFR 50.49 list, 3) the procedures for maintaining these listings are in place, 4) the valve tabulations would be added by September 30, 1991, and 5) the EMS, the Document Change Control Management (DCCM) System, and the Calculation Cross Reference Information (CCRIS) System are the controlled systems that make up the Master Design Document List.

Subsequently, the MEL Validation / Verification was merged with phase 11 of the Q-List. This resulted in an increase in the total scope of the project and the need to extend the scheduled completion date to September 30, 1994.

In addition, other databases were reviewed for inclusion into the Equipment Management System (EMS),

Based on these reviews, TVA plans to input the instrument and fuse tabs.

In addition, the revised scope of this project includes a systematic review of EMS to:

1) update quality-related classification and evaluation, 2) validate the database by identifying safety related, quality-related, and nonquality related components in safety related systems, 3) resolve incorrect and redundant component identification numbers (UNIDS), and 4) establish procedural controls to maintain configuration. The increase in the total scope of this project through combining of programs has resulted in a total of approximately 129,000 components for Unit 2 and common to be verified and input to EMS.

In summary, due to the increase in scope as previously discussed TVA requests that the scheduled commitment completion date be extended to September 30, 1994. There are no new commitments contained in this letter.

If you have any questions, please telephone G. D. pierce, Interim Manager of Site Licensing, at (205) 729-7566.
