20555 NRC DOCKET NUMBERS 50-424 AND 50-425 CONSTRUCTION PERMIT NUMBERS CPPR-108 AND CPPR-109 V0GTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT - UNITS 1 AND 2 Request for Additional Information: DSER Open Items 3, 8 and 112
Dear Mr. Denton:
During a conference call on May 20, 1985 with members of your staff, the NRC staff requested additional commitments on the part of Georgia Power Company to close out the above open items.
The NRC requested that an array or nest of 3 holes be placed at two opposite corners of the power block. The primary or deepest hole should be cored to within 5 to 10 feet from the bottom of the marl.
This primary hole in each nest should be cored, logged and have in-situ permeability test performed. From the information gained from this primary hole, the depth into the~ marl of the two additional holes in the nest will be determined. Logging and permeability test will not be required on the two additional holes.
During discussion on the groundwater monitoring program submitted to the NRC earlier.this year, the following request and observations were made (1) the number of additional wells.to be monitored presented in our program was satisfactory.
(2) They requested that the observation well monitoring frequency be changed to weekly instead of every two weeks in our program. This should be done for the first six months after program goes into effect. After six months Georgia Power Company should prepare a report and based on information obtained, make recommendations on changing the program.
(3) One well in the power block area and one removed from the power block area will either have continuous recording or daily readings to correlate fluctuations, if any are observed, with the local rainfall recorded.
Georgia Power Company agrees with the above request and will work out the details with the NRC staff in the near future.
