SUluliCT- NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-334/92-24 AND 50-412/92-24
This letter transmits the repo:t of the resident safety inspection by Mr. L. Rossbach and
Mr. P Sena at the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport, Pennsylvania. The
reporting period covers from October 13 to November 18, 1992. The inspection consisted of
document reviews, interviews, and observation of activities important to public health and
safety. The findings were summarized and discussed with Mr. T. Noonan and other
members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Overall, the plant 3 were operated safely and conservatively. In particular, we note the
excellent operator action in response to a feedwater transient, which was, however, induced
by a technician's error. The operator's prompt and appropriate action averted the need for
an automatic reactor trip.
