(CYAPCO) and Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) submitted to the NRC a request for authorization to use a portion of Section XI of the 1986 Edition '

of the ASME Code pertaining to visual examinations for the Haddam Neck Plant and Hillstone Nuclear Power Station, Units 2 and 3. You requested, as an i

-alternative, to allow visual examinations VT-3 and VT-4 to be combined into a single VT-3 as the 1986 Code permits.

We have reviewed and evaluated the request and supporting information. Based on the information submitted and pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(4)(iv), we  :'

hereby grant approval to use the 1986 Edition of the ASME Code Article IWA-2213, '".)sual Examination VT-3" as a subsequent Edition of the ASME Code, i

provided that all related requirements of the respective editions or addenda are met.
