Chairman, U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

Dear 6. airman Selin:

I am writing to you about the proposed low-level radioactive waste processing and storage facility at the Terry Nuclear Power Plant, in Lake County Ohio. It is my understanding that the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, which runs the Perry facility is proposing to build a structure costng $2.7 million that would process and store contaminated wastes which the reactor is expected to generate over the next five years.

As you may know, public concerns have been raised about this proposed facility. The management of these wastes requires the utmost diligence and care to assure that public safety and health are protected. In this regard, I urge you to work closely with the nearby residents and the Lake County Commissioners so that they have a full understanding cf uhar.

the utility proposes to do, its attendant risks and the steps being taken to minimize these risks. I would appreciate it if you would arrange a briefing on this matter with my Commitee staff, as soon as it is convenient.
