Maine Yankee Core Damage Assessment Methodology Centlemen:

Attached is Maine Yankee's final Core Damage Assessment Methodology.

Minor editorial changes have been made to the draf t methodology submitted with Reference (b).

Through discussions with Dr. Heitner and Mr. Wu of your staff, we have Icarned you requested our Core Damage Assessment Procedure in order to obtain detailed plant specific data to conduct your review of the methodology. The attached methodology was developed by Yankee Nuclear Services Division of Yankee Atomic Electric Company specifically for application at the Maine Yankee plant. Accordingly, the data contained in the methodology is plant specific and is not different than that provided by the procedure. We believe the attached methodology contains sufficient detail and plant specific information in order for the staff to conduct their review.

Please contact me should you require additional information. For the reasons mentioned above, we understand that submitting our Core Damage Assessment Procedure is not necessary.

Very truly yours, MMNC YAt4(EE M0MJC POWER COWANY lSA"'A8El8S8Sl,8e g Jz9- AvM C. D. Whittier, Manager Nuclear Engineering & Licensing COW /bjp Enclosure 0 0\
