ROUTINE CHEMISTRY INSPECTION AT THE PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR
GENERATING STATION ON JANUARY 4 THROUGH 7, 1993
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Dr. J. House and
Mr. S. Orth of this office on January 4 through 7, 1993. The inspection
' included a review of authorized activities of your Prairie _ lsland Nuclear .

Generating Station, Unit _s 1 and 2. _At the conclusion of the inspection, the
findings were discussed with those members of your staff identified _in the
enclosed report.
The enclosed copy of our inspection re) ort _ identifies areas examined during-
the inspection. Within these areas, tie inspection consisted of a selective

examination _of procedures and representative records, observations, and
l
interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation
i
of NRC requirements.
However, as described in the enclosed inspection report,
'
you identified this violation. Therefore, the violation will not be subject
l
-to enforcement action because your efforts in identifying and correcting the-
- -
violation meet the criteria specified in Section Vll.B of the " General
L
Statement of Policy and Procedures for NRC Enforcement Actions," (Enforcement'
Policy, 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C),--
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of-
this letter and the. enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC
Public Document' Room.
