Tarapur nuclear power plant near Bombay on January 19.

India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi will preside at the ceremony. U. S. Ambassador Kenneth B. Keating also will be present.

Commissioner Ramey will present a plaque from the USAEC and the U. S. Agency for International Development (AID) in recognition of the contributions of those associated with the

  • Tarc.pur Project.

The 380 megawatt electrical (MWE) plant, consisting of two 190 MWE power reactors, is the first nuclear power plant .

to be built in a developing country. The nuclear portion of the plant was supplied by General Electric Company and the i

USAEC is supplying approximately $100 million worth of enriched i uranium under a sales contract for the reactors through 1993. '

AID loaned India $75 million for the construction of the plant. ,

Commissioner Ramey will discuss India's overall power planning and the prospects for nuclear energy centers with Dr. Vikram A.

Sarabhai, Chairman of the Indian Atomic Energy Commission, and other Indian officials.

Commissioner Ramey also plans to visit Thailand to present a paper at the Water Supply and Sanitation Seminar at the U. S.

Trade Center in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 21. ,
