Dear Mr. Boyd:
MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 Additional Information on the ECCS Analysis We were requested to provide in writing additional information on the ECCS Analysis that was submitted on July 9,1975 in regard to the potential sub-mergence of valve motors within containment following a LOCA.
General Electric has conducted a review of the generic equipment arrangement of ECCS valves in the BWR/3, 4, 5 and 6 product line plants.
The conclusion f rom this review is that all valves in the ECC System which must be operable during and after a LOCA are locatqd outside coatainment and will not become submerged due to the occurrence of a LOCA. As a result, it is concluded that neither the short time requirements, nor long term cooling capability, is affected by suomergence efiects.
NSP has reviewed the applicability of the General Electric generic review on potentially submerged valve motors within containment and finds that it is appropriate for the Monticello Plant.
Yours very truly, cY'O,1q L. O. Mayer, PE Manager, Nuclear Support Services LOM/ deb 9034 cc:
