x r n ;em c a s 1 ue v.: a INFORMNTION NEEDS FOR FIN L2605 Task 1: Ongoing or Completed Experiments Task 1 includes the uruversity experiments (UCB md MIT) and the expetiments that have been completed at GIRAFFE. Task 1 is broken into subtasks; the information needed to complete each subtask is !i ted below:
Subtask 1: Review scaling of these testfacilities as.d test matrices against test objectises and advise whether there is any weakness in these testplans.
RELAPS analyses may be necessaryfor the scaling studies.
This subtask requires the following laformation for each facility:

This subtask requires the following infornt : ion for each fa; ity:
List ofinstruments used in each facility l
Range of each 'as;rument Location of cach instrument Calibration informat;on including:
Pre and post test c 'ibration (standards quality) instrument uncertainty Instrument respone characteri; tics (time constants, filtering, etc.)
Data sampling rates Subtask 3: Develop input decks, analysr e test data, and advise if there are any quah, cationr to the atplicauon of these data. At least one post-test l

f analysis, using RELtPS, is projectedfor each of the UCB and MITpro-grams, andfour RELtPS analyses are projected for GIRAFFE tests.
This subtask require <. the following information for each facility:
All of the information requested for E brask 1 Pipe benus, nestrictions, area changes, etc.
Wlve characteristics including:
Elevation and location of each valve WJve type Wlve flow area Foraard and reverse loss coefficients Subcooled and two-phase discharge coefficients Opening and closing rates of valves Normal operating position Presence or absence of hysteresir, Closing back pressure of check valves Irak ratio-fraction of valve area when valve is closed Control system data including:
Schematics and logic diagrams Control setpoints identification of instruments used for autcmatic actuatione DescripGerts ofinternr.1 and external heat sources Steady state performar.ce including:
Differential pressures acrcss each component F.sw rates thron'h all system flow paths Temperatures a d pressures throughout the systerns Test data listed under subtask 4 below Submsk 4: Evaluate vendor's pre test andpost-test analys:s and report thepndings, i
l This subtask requires the folicwing information for each facil!ty:
Operator's log Experiment planning document (including test objectives)
Experiment specification report including facility configuration Experimental data reports including:
Sequence of events (both operational and physical)
Post test analysis repons, both experimental and cod *. analyses Subtask 5: Assist the NRC in evaluation of vendor s conclusion I based on these test results.

- .1 Task 2: Future Experiments Task ? investig.aies the remaining experiments at GIRAFFE and the PANTHERS upenmems.
The mbrmanon needs for stus task are included below.
Subtask 1: Analy.ne scaling of the testfacility and advise uhether any design modification may be destrable.
The requirements for this subtask are idemical to those for Taski, subtaski except that the infortnation is needed for the PANTHERS fac;hty. It also must b-determined if Csign modifications are planned for the next stage of the GIRAFFE facility.
l Suhtask 2:. Review the test plan against the needs for asse. iment of the RELAPS code and advise if any modifncation to the plan may be desirable to obtain neccessary information.
This subtask requires the following information for each facinty:
Details of any geometry changes to the GIRAFFE facility Expetiment planning and specification documents Information on instmmentation fot PANTiiERS (s(e Task 1)
Subtas!: L Use a computer code designated by the NRC toperform pre-andpost-tes' calculations ofselected tests to analy:e the test results and to assess :he code f>r its application to analyses ofSBWR system perfor-mance. Two pre test andfour post-test analyses using RELAPS, are projectedfor the RANTHERS program while one pre test and tuopost-test analyses are projected for GIRAFFE.
The same inforsaation requested for Task 1, suhtask 3 above is needed for this task.

Subtask 4: Evaluate results of the tess and the sendcrs as nell as the NRC test cal.
culations and advise if any upgrading to the code may be necessaryfor the application in Task 4. Courdinate with the contractor nho is responsible for the code development to implement such modifications.
This subtask requires the following information for teth the GIRAFFE and PANTliERS experiments:
Operator's log Experiment planning document (including test objectives)
Experiment specification report including facility con 6guration Experimental datc. reports including:
Sequence of events (both operational and physical)
Post-test analysis repons, both experimental and code analyses Task 3: Evaluate Perfortnance orIsolation Condenser Systent in Operating BWRs Eva'uate design data of the SBGR isolation condenser system (ICS) against those of operating plan and identify any significant differences. Investigate whether such :ifferences may ' nave an impact on SBWR ICSperformance. Esalmte operasion data ofexistingICSs and investigate if any of such data may be usefulfor assessraent of the RELAP5 code, The SSAR is the primary source ofICS design data (geometry),
ahhough a few GE presentations also contain information. This infor-mhtion, in corjunction with the requested test nformatior.hould be sufficient to co np'te this task.
Task 4: Consultation in this task, the contractor shall assist the NRC in identihing and resolvir. = safety issues con-nected witi, these experiments that may be importantfor SBWR design cert 7 cation. RELAP5 cal-culations may be needed to help estabbsh NRC positionsfor these issues.
No additional information should be needed for this.ask.
