Washington, D.C. 20585

Dear Ms. Cerny:

This is to follow up on some af the issues raised during the NRC/ DOE meeting of Octcber 27, 1992 on the cost and feasibility of using InfoSTREAMS 'or LSS development and operations.

At that meeting, Dan Graser briefed us on areas related to t'.

potential integration of InfoSTREAMS with the LSS.

His presentation was helpful in placing InfoSTREAMS in context and in placing bounds on what we might expect in response to my October 6,1992 letter to Frank Peters.

During that meeting, certain ancillary issues were raised by Dan that I believe watrant further discussion between our offices; for example, the amoe t of indexing that DOE intends to provide beyond the minimal coding required for the LSS ' bibliographic header" and the potential need for additional header fields to capture " pedigree ;nformation."

These particular issues are applicable regardless of who captures cnd who operates the LSS.

Also, other important issues were listed on the last slide on Dan's briefing package.

See attached.

I believe that it is important N r us to discuss and more fu'ly delineate these issuas and any other concerns you may have, before they are broucht up at an LSSARP meeting.

I would suggest that we meet sometime in the next 4-6 weeks to further sharpen these issues and to plan for their resolution.

Please select a date that would be convenient for you and give me a call so we can finalize the meeting time, place, etc.

Sircerely,

@8lD BY Lloyd J. Donnelly LSS Administrator
