Gentlemen:
C129 4
g I am writing this letter to petition for permission to intervane in the hearing concerning the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, which will take place at Buffale, Minnesota, April 23, 1970 s
I am a sophomore at Elk River Senior High School and am making a study of the field of nuclear power plants and the prob-lems they generate. I live approximately fifteen niles from the plant site at Monticello and with in a few hundred feet of the Mississippi River, which my fami.h of ten uses for recreational purposes.
I believe these two factors, as well as the fact that I wish to be an active concerned citizen of my state and nation, qualify me as an " interested party".
My main areas of concern are the aspccts of radioactive vaste and thermal pollution and the effect they have on aquatic 9
life, wild life and recreational activities. As pollution of any nature is a major concern of the American people today, my interest is whether or not this concern is more emotional than logical.
Too of ten I have found that more emphasis is placed on new industry that has already established pollution control standards than on those induntries now in existance which have produced and are i
producing more pollutants per day than those new industries could l
hope to produce in a life time.
i I hope my concern justifies my petition to intervene at the forthcoming hearing. Yo.tr nonsideration is appreciated.
1 Sincerely, llb
