Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Correction to Response to Supplemental SER on the IST Program Gentlemen:
Our submittal dated June 13, 1985 provided responses to several issues which remained opened on the staff's Supplemental Safety Evaluation Report on our IST Program.
Item 2 of the attachment to that submittal addressed our proposed method of full-stroke exercising the accumulator discharge check valves.
In addition to the proposed method for stroking these valves, we stated that normal Residual Heat Removal (RHR) System operation would also exercise two of the check valves.
It was stated that:
"The RHR flowrate is in excess of the design accumulator discharge flowrate and therefore further demonstrates the ability of these two valves to meet their intended function".
Under DBA conditions, the accumulator discharge flow would be greater than the expected RHR flow through these valves, therefore, our statement is not correct. This statement should have been as follows:
'The RHR flowrate is in excess of the minimum flowrate necessary to full-stroke these check valves and therefore further demon-strates the ability of these two valves to meet their intended function".
This correction is provided to assist in your evaluation of our submittal.
