SUBJECT:

STAT S REPORT FROM THE NRC INCIDENT If(VESTIGATION TEAM AT DAVIS BESSE At approximately 1:00pm today, June 18, E. Rossi reported iSe following progress:

1. A meeting with the licensee is scheduled for this afternoon to review the sequence of events and to clarify and resolve any differences. The team's sequence is believed to be more detailed than the licensee's.

After all differences have been resolved,'the team's sequence of events will be forwarded to headquarters (should be available on Wednesday morning, June 19).

2. The team interviewed the Shift Technical Advisor on duty during the event.

At Davis Besse, the STAS are on duty for 24 hour2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
shifts and at the time of the event (1:30am), he was in a room nearby. He arrived in the control room 5 to 10 minutes after feedwater was lost. Apparently, he was not deeply involved in recovery from the event.

3. The licensee, together with the equipment vendor have completed some work
 • on the two AFW valves that failed during the event. The team will interview the vendor's representative. Preliminary indications are that a bypass switch on the torque switch may have been misadjusted.

The licensee is proceeding with inspection of other equipment. The next 4.

- compon'ents to be worked on will be the main feedwater pump controls. This work will involve the vendor (GE), but the extent of the vendor involve-ment is not completely clear at this time.
